Burkina

The poem Africa by Jamila Claire—I have revised it to fit Burkina Faso

Burkina

I come from an island far from Africa. Where my blood has known comfort, luxury, and spoils

I felt the heat of Burkina, the sun’s heat of raging fire.
I have touched the rain of Burkina, the sweetest sound of a thunderstorm.
I have seen the women of Burkina, with an intelligence and a beauty unimaginable.
I have danced to the music of Burkina, around the the beating drums.
I have sung the songs of Burkina and heard children’s laugher echoing among the trees.

I have beat the drums of Burkina, a rhythm divine for the whole of Africa to hear – “Ek het jou lief Burkina” – I love you Burkina!
I have seen the passion of Burkina, in man’s eyes while he works the land

I long to go come back here, where the drum’s rhythm is so divine, and I will sing along, “Ek het jou lief Burkina” – I love you Burkina!

(the italics will eventually be changed into More…but my sheet with some phrases translated is already packed and I can’t get to it)
